Hiya
My name is Chrissie Caulfield and I play violin, synths and sundry other instruments.
I play with the Dark Rock band Helicopter Quartet, the Harrogate Philharmonic Orchestra, and synth band CSMA. I also toured with Crippled Black Phoenix in spring 2011 and played on several of their albums (eg White Light Generator), as well as recording and live playing for Justin Greaves’s other project (with Belinda Kordic) Se Delan. I also appear on two albums by Matt Stevens and several others. This blog will be mainly about my own music and what I’m up to but I do reserve the right to blog about other things as I feel like it.
As you might gather from the list above, I’m perhaps a slightly eccentric violinist, I like to mess with violin effects both acoustic and electronic and the music I produce doesn’t seem to fit neatly into any particular genre. I once described my music as “This is what happens to classical music when you remove its inhibitions, lend it to a prog-rocker and then try to play the tattered remains when it comes back two years later covered in cat pawprints.”
Music is not my job – it’s a side project or, if you will, a hobby. But it’s probably the most important thing in my life. I do have jobs that pays for these adventures.
If you want to hear the music I have available online you can listen and download or buy it at my bandcamp site and there are other random scrapings on soundcloud. As I record more I will post about it on this blog … if I remember.
The header photo is of me playing with now-defunct band Catscans. It was taken by the lovely Rob McNish.
